The route to becoming a paddlesports instructor is easily mapped out by British Canoeing. There is a lovely pathway of personal skills awards (Star Awards) to benchmark your personal technical proficiency, there are the Safety and Rescue Training courses that teach you how to keep yourself and others around you safe, or how to rescue them if they get into difficulty, and there are the Coaching Qualification courses, that actually teach you how to deliver that knowledge to students that you are inspiring to become future paddlers themselves.
That is all clear, but what it doesnt always do is to help you map out your route. How long will it take? What kit will you need, and it what situations? And even more importantly it doesnt highlight the amount of self-directed non course experience and fun you should have in between undertaking instructed courses.
Our progression packages are designed to offer all of the above, and more. How do the Progression Packages work?
At the time of booking we will sit down with you and - with your input - will create you a totally personalised plan on how to reach your current chosen goal. This will be about which courses to do, the kit you might want to try. But also we will ensure that there is time built into the plan for you to go out and paddle. We will give you ideas for locations, venues to go to, suggest people/clubs you can join. We can even put you in touch with shops and importers that will look after you when you are buying kit.
On top of that, you have the choice to either receive a discount for booking all your courses up front, or to choose to have some free mentoring days throughout the process. That choice is up to you.
So, in short:
1) Choose your current end goal. Where do you want to go / what do you want to do with your paddling? We can help you map out the process!
2) Book the relevant progression package
3) Decide whether you want a discount on the course fees, or free mentoring sessions. As you go through the process you will be having some mentored time anyway, but to spend some dedicated additional time with our coach education team to sit down, and talk through things, maybe get out for a paddle, or look at portfolios etc, is also very worthwhile.
4) Book your preferred course dates OR Book your first course in the progression and book the rest of the courses as you go, to suit your development.
